  Zwei Männer gingen zum Tempel hinauf, um zu beten; 
  der eine war ein Pharisäer, der andere ein Zöllner.
  Der Pharisäer betete bei sich selber:
  Ich danke dir Gott, daß ich nicht bin wie andere Leute: 
Räuber, Ungerechte, Ehebrecher oder auch wie dieser Zöllner.
  Der Zöllner aber stand von ferne, schlug an seine Brust und sprach:
  Gott, sei mir gnädig, mir Sünder.
  
  Two men went up to the temple to pray; 
  one was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
  The Pharisee prayed to himself:
  I thank you, God, that I am not like other people: robbers, unjust, adulterers or even like this tax collector.
  But the tax collector stood afar off, beating his breast and saying:
  God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
